For the first time in eight years, the University of the Philippines Streetdance Club (UPSDC) fell short of a podium finish in the UAAP Streetdance Competition, as they settled for fourth place yesterday, March 23, at the Araneta Coliseum.
Donning their floral polos, the club grooved to their summer-inspired routine on the dancefloor, showcasing the joy that comes with the heat despite the ongoing water crisis. Their pumped up performance, however, was just not enough to land them a spot in the Top 3.
UPSDC garnered 82.00 points, behind the National University Underdawgz who got 83.25. Last year's champs FEU Street Alliance settled for silver this time, scoring a total of 85 points.
Newly-crowned champions La Salle Dance Company outperformed everyone with an aggregate score of 86.50. This is their fourth win in the competition, a new record set in UAAP Streetdance history.
Since the competition started in 2011, UP SDC has bagged three golds, three silvers, and one bronze medal.
Meanwhile, in the juniors division, University of Santo Tomas Galvanize remained undefeated as champs this season after getting 80.10, 5.6 points more than the silver medalist University of the East Street Warriors with 74.50. UP Junior Streetdance Team only got a total score of 64.15, ending up in sixth place.
